about Mary Daniel | Mary Daniel is a ceramic and mixed media artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has an extensive background in teaching and educational leadership as well as the studio arts. Mary graduated with a double major in ceramics and painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus. Her primary mentor was Jack Sures and she took classes with David Gilhooley, Joe Fafard and Russell Yuristy. She was also fortunate to be a personal assistant to Marilyn Levine. Mary studied painting with Art MacKay, Ted Godwin and Doug Morton, and her experiences continue to influence the manner in which she works her clay surfaces. She has an affinity for slab work and sculptural forms using inlay processes. Her emphasis on surface decoration is a reflection of her background as a painter as well as a ceramicist. Mary Daniel has taught for the Vancouver School of Art, in the Visual and Performing Arts Department of the University of British Columbia, and for the Vancouver School Board. Her work is represented in private and public collections in North America. In the spring of 2010, she will be undertaking an invitational residency at the International Ceramic Studio in Kecskemet, Hungary. |
